About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 20 minutes

How do religious traditions view the body? How do religious teachings and practices relate to the gendered and racialised body of practitioners? What is the relationship between bodily practices and notions of the soul, spirit or mind?

From the body of Christ to the racialised and gendered dimensions of the body in ‘Afrocuban’ traditions of trance, and from Buddhist monastic bodily deportment to the body as site of divine encounter and theologising in Pentecostalism and womanism, this promises to be a wide-ranging and fascinating insight into the research of colleagues in Divinity.

Featuring:

Dr Alysa Ghose, Lecturer in Religion and Decolonisation

Dr David Grumett, Senior Lecturer in Theology and Ethics

Dr Upali Sraman, Lecturer in Buddhist Languages and Cultures

Dr Selina Stone, Lecturer in Theology and Ethics
