Here are some of our FAQ’s on Ascend;
1) How do I find out if I am eligible for Study Leave? What my allowance is? and how do I apply?
- Email StudyLeave@churchofscotland.org.uk and we can advise what allowance you have. You can also request a follow up call to discuss a study idea.
- On the 1st January each year you are eligible you accrue 14 days and £275. This can roll over for a maximum of 5 years and caps at 70 days and £1375.
- Study leave page on Ascend – Study Leave – Ascend (churchofscotland.org.uk) download an application form and email it to us on the above address. Applications are reviewed monthly. 3-6 months in advance of study is the normal lead in timescale.
- Full Terms and Conditions can be found on the Ascend website.
- Study leave cannot be taken in the year prior to retirement.
- Presbytery approval required for time away from parish.
- Pulpit Supply is applicable where required (doesn’t come off of your allowance)
- The Study leave report is only 400 words.
2) Who is eligible under the FFY allowance and how do I apply?
- Once in a charge, those in FTWAS can apply for this each of their first five years in post.
- £200 per calendar year, from the 1st January (Doesn’t roll over, you lose it if you don’t use it)
- Download an application form on the Ascend website FFY CMD Allowance – Ascend (churchofscotland.org.uk) and email it to ascend@churchofscotland.org.uk
- Can be used for Short courses / conferences / resources including books and electronic resources / retreats or pilgrimages.
- Always get prior approval before making any purchases. (we try to turn around applications within a week)
3) What is Retreat, am I eligible and how do I apply?
- Download an application form on the ascend website Retreat – Ascend (churchofscotland.org.uk) and email it to pastoralsupport@churchofscotland.org.uk The Support team look after this fund.
- Ministers and Deacons with 2 or more years’ service are eligible to apply
- Retreat must be in Scotland [this is due to the terms of the Trust Fund]
- Up to £250 per annum [subject to available funds]
- Multiple application in a year allowed up to £250 combined total
