The journal Theology in Scotland seeks contributions (articles, academic interviews, theological reflections, creative compositions) that explore the intersections of suffering, human and non-human experience, and divine presence in the world. This issue will seek to examine theological perspectives on suffering and its relationship to evil, and consider how Christian communities can respond to both in meaningful and creative ways. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  • The nature of experience, consciousness, and divine presence in creation
  • The relationship between God’s action, prayer, and healing
  • Non-human suffering: nature and ecological grief
  • Trauma-informed theology and pastoral responses to suffering
  • Liturgical insights into how communal worship may engage with and respond to suffering and the presence of evil

If you are interested in submitting a contribution for this themed issue, please send your proposal/abstract to the Editor at editortisjournal@gmail.com. The deadline for proposal/abstract submissions is 15 April 2025. If accepted, the deadline for the final version of the article/contribution will be 31 August 2025. Further instructions on submitting to Theology in Scotland can be found here.
