Susan studied English at Aberdeen University and worked as a teacher in secondary schools. She trained as a counsellor with the Scottish Institute of Human Relations (now Human Development Scotland) in the mid 80’s and completed the SIHR Therapeutic Skills with Children and Young People in 1991.

For many years Susan has been a member of the SIHR Children and Young People’s Project and Adult Counselling Seminar, and has contributed to numerous courses for SIHR and HDS.Until December 2016 Susan worked as a children and young people’s and adult counsellor and was convener of the HDS Adult Counselling Service.

At that time she decided to lighten her work load and decided to concentrate on supervising counsellors and others in the caring professions. She continues to offer organisational consultancy and shorter term counselling, including on behalf of the Church of Scotland.

Her approach is psychodynamic which means she is interested in the influence of the past on the present and of the unconscious mind on the conscious mind. She has wide experience of working with children and young people, adults and couples and of providing supervision and teaching on supervision courses.

She is registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council as an organisational therapist.
