More about Learning Communities

Learning Community is a chance to take some of your members / leadership team on a journey. Four times over a period of two years, you and up to five others from your church come together for 2 full days of teaching, reflection and planning. At these gatherings which take place every six months, you will focus on a particular aspect of the life and mission of your congregation and reflect on how it is working for you, imagine how you might change it for the future, and then make strategies that will help you to achieve those changes. You’ll do all of this in company with groups from up to 9 other congregations, and supported by the team from Cairn. You can expect helpful insightful and inspiring teaching, great resources and a real depth of support and accountability. In between the gatherings there will be coaching offered to the ministers from each context. You can find more information about Cairn and about the process here.

This particular learning community is a partnership between Cairn and the Priority Areas team, and there will be a number of priority area congregations participating, there are a limited number of spaces for other congregations to join with us and we very much look forward to welcoming you.

The first gathering will take place in Glasgow, at Adelaide Place Baptist Church on Bath St on the 21st and 22nd of March. The dates for the remaining three gatherings are 24th & 25th October, 20th & 21st March 2019, 23rd & 24th October 2019. To join, please contact John Finch.

Each Gathering has a different focus:

Gathering One: Building a Discipling Culture

This covers the key principles, values and learning points that help to create and establish a strong culture of missional discipleship. We will look at how shared culture, mind-set and key values (covenant and kingdom, invitation and challenge) can help people take personal responsibility for their own discipleship and begin to live out their identity, faith, missional vision and call.

Gathering Two: Multiplying Missional Leaders

In this gathering we will look at how to identify, develop, train and release leaders. This will include looking at vision and values, training infrastructure, intentional discipleship environments (huddles) and principles (Lifeshapes) creating a culture of innovation & allowing freedom to fail.

Gathering Three: Leading Missional Communities

This gathering focuses on how to create, value and release the “spiritual households” that impact their neighbourhood or network of relationships.  There will be input on developing a balanced three-dimensional lifestyle of faith, community and mission and how that life can be expressed in many different ways.  Teams will learn more about principals and lessons learned from those involved in the process of establishing and releasing Missional Communities.

Gathering Four: Leading Kingdom Movements

This gathering looks at the principles and practices of establishing a strong resourcing centre and how to establish prayer, develop training, practice hospitality and ensure strong pastoral care.  Team focus on the mission centre as a resourcing base which missional communities orbit in and out of on a regular rhythm, thus growing a sustainable missional movement.
